THE NEW P20

Gamut USA has released its new P20 bashguard design.  Like its P30 and P40 counterparts, the new P20 continues Gamut's promise of offering light, simple, and durable chainguides.  The new P20's optimized design provides a better way of absorbing energy from impacts by flexing and distributing the impact forces away from critical drive-train components.  This approach to bashguard design was originally established in 2004 with the release of Gamut's P40, the choice of 2008 World Cup Champion Greg Minnaar.  The P20 accommodates 32-34 tooth setups.  As part of Gamut's commitment to best in class rider support, the new P20 includes our lifetime product warranty and any support you need from the Gamut crew.

"We are very pleased  to have the P20 design done and out to the market. It's lighter, yet stronger. When we released the P40 in 2004, we provided mtb with a design that was made to flex and distribute energy away from the chain line without jeopardizing the drive-train. It was the first impact absorbing design of its kind and we've been working to optimize our bashguards ever since. " Juan Graziosi Gamut co founder.

Gamut offers guides specific to chain ring size in order to provide riders with options for their setups without the fuss of adapters or needless extra material found on "one-sized fits all" setups.

MINNAAR ON TOP

6.08.08

Greg Minnaar

By Kathy Sessler:

Ft. William, Scotland
June 8, 2008

Wow, what a day for the Santa Cruz Syndicate with Greg Minnaar taking the win at the 100th UCI World Cup Downhill in Ft. William, Scotland, and Steve Peat and Nathan Rennie joining him on the podium! It was especially sweet for Minnaar today as he conquered the track after last year’s let down of crashing at World Championships, breaking his scapula and dislocating his shoulder and placing fourth. "Revenge is sweet!" exclaimed Minnaar. Equally exciting was the return of Rennie back where he belongs on the podium.

It was a shocker for Ft. William to be bone dry and dusty after five weeks with no rain. Walking down the course in the spongy, squeaky peat bog scattered with bits of lamb’s wool tucked into the scrubby brush, racers ride past with the energy transmitting through the ground to your feet. Even with a few course changes from years past, you couldn’t even compare times to last years track as the conditions made it completely different. The demanding track did claim a few victims during practice with young Steve Smith hyper-extending his knee that took him out of the race. Matti Lehikonen suffered a get-off and gouged his knee on a metal grate as his kneepad shifted.

Good news for the Syndicate, Josh Bryceland returned to competition at Ft. Bill after suffering a massive crash and leg injury in Maribor. Bryceland started practice cautiously and his knee was playing on his mind a bit. Steve Peat had him follow him down to check it out, but the second day of practice Bryceland just forgot about it and rode well.

Nathan Rennie was focused and determined to have some revenge in the race to redeem himself since crashing on this track last year at World Championships. Greg Minnaar thought the difficult week he had in Andorra was behind him, but it wasn’t, and again his mechanical problems plagued him all week. Practice went fine for Peat and he was glad to be in the rare Scottish sunshine amidst the large, enthusiastic crowds that flock to Ft. Bill to see the race.

QUALIFER:

With the slightest drizzle before practice the track improved slightly then the day stayed dry. Greg Minnaar set the pace in the qualifier with a solid run winning it. Peat finished 4th and Rennie puts himself back in the game with an 8th place finish. Bryceland rode without expectations and after doing a one-foot table, he took it easy and just carried on riding steady in his run for 29th.

Minnaar said, “Everyone is going for points and I’m happy to get top points by winning the qualifier. Hopefully I can max out points in the final, as well. My run was sweet, but I drank a bit of energy drink on an empty stomach and it had me buzzing. I won’t do that again.” Peat was fast on most of the track, but messed up on a few parts where he needed to carry speed. “I’m glad to finish up with the big boys,” said Peat. Rennie was pleased with his efforts saying, “I just relaxed in my run and just went nice and steady. It feels good to be back in the top ten. I needed that to get out of the rut I’ve been in. I’m back where I’m suppose to be and I have plenty of fuel in the tank for the final.”

DOWNHILL FINAL:

The excitement was building as thousands of spectators watched the big screen and lined the course with the tunes blaring, announcers pumping up the crowd and Josh Bryceland back in action taking the hot seat with a 4:57.13. His stint in the hot seat barely started when Marc Beaumont bumped him out. Twenty riders later Rennie was on track and the leader board showed he was 3 seconds faster on the split time than the leader and he moved into the hot seat with a 4:48.19. The crowd went mental when Peat came on the big screen. Peat bumped Rennie from the hot seat and they made the exchange joyfully. Minnaar was the last man down the hill and his split time showed he was on target for the win. He did not disappoint as he blasted across the finish line winning by 3.17 seconds amidst thousands of cheers, especially mine!!!!

The podium presentation was jubilant for the Syndicate. Peaty came in from stage right sliding on his knees, then Minnaar was presented with a sword engraved for the 100th World Cup Downhill and he whacked off the top of the champagne bottle, literally with cork and glass flying.

“I’m back mother f_____r!” said Rennie. “Everything clicked nicely. I could’ve had a better run, which is good for me because I know I’ve got more in me. I’m happy for Greg for his win today, and the rest of the team for getting the overall team classification. I’m glad everything is falling into place, especially before World Championship’s.” Peaty says, “Stoked!! Syndicate rules!! It’s gonna be a hell of a night!”

THE NEW P30

4.08.08

P30

Gamut USA has launched a new P30 bashguard designed to protect 36t single ring set-ups. The design consists of a new polycarbonate blend and a never before used spoke/cavity structure that reduces the weight by 25% while providing greater protection. By employing a smarter approach to energy distribution when absorbing impacts, the new design channels energy away from the frame and more critical (not mention expensive) drive-train components.

In early 2007, Gamut started working on prototypes to break the 200 gram mark for a complete guide/device system. At 222 grams, the new P30 is the lightest guide available which can take the rigors of a World Cup season.

“Although the riders we survey demand weight reduction in so many areas of their bikes, we knew we needed to lower the weight without compromising protection. The new material enables us to create the lighter structure which distributes energy away from more critical and expensive drive-train components and in no way compromises the frame or ISCG tabs like direct mount options” states Juan Graziosi, co- founder of Gamut USA.

Gamut’s approach to protecting drive-componentry is derived from rider feedback which surfaces 5 main elements; performance, durability, weight, ease of installation, and cost. These same principles were also followed in the design of Gamut’s new Race Rings which will be out later this year. “We had riders on our Race Rings all last season and now we are getting ready to release them to the market. They are lighter than anything else we are aware of and compliment the guides nicely” said Mike Poutre, co- founder of Gamut USA.

Race Ring

Gamut has also been working on their dual-ring chainguide, which will utilize the new bashguard design making it the lightest dual-ring on the market. Gamut would like to give special thanks to the riders who provided input and to our guys and gals that tested our prototypes all of last year. They help make Gamut’s products a reality.

P30

Introducing the new Gamut P30

After a year of collecting rider feedback and testing prototypes, Gamut USA has developed its latest product, the P30. The P30 was designed specifically for the 36 tooth chain ring and provides yet another option to riders for their chain retention needs. In addition to offering riders with a more refined chain guide, Gamut has made a custom 1.5 gram bolt for the top guide. Gone is the 20 gram stainless steal bolt which means each rider will net a weight savings of 18.5 grams off the already lightest full system guide on the market. A hard anodized grey now protects the 60 61 grade aluminum boomer and a smaller size means less weight and more ground clearance. The P30 comes in all available mounting configurations, ISCG, ISCG 05 as well as bottom bracket mount. Ultra high strength poly-carbonate remains the material of choice for our high performing bashguards which are available in, Red, White, Black, and Blue. RIDING THE GAMUT IN MOUNTAIN BIKE ACTION

06.10.05

Mountain Bike Action Page

If you saw this ultra slick rig sporting our original G45 in this month's edition of Mountain Bike Action, that means you are aware of its purpose. This Intense Tazer 4x bike is being used as a test platform for all race-specific components. More and more, riders are finding out that the evolution of the sport is driving manufacturers to serve the specific needs of those in the racing community.

Gamut USA was inspired by information supplied by riders. As a result, this information was used to develop chain-retention solutions. When we asked the question "What does a rider need and want in a race guide?" we realized that when solving the basic need of chain retention, less is more. Let's face it - keeping a chain on a bike is not rocket science, and we don't think that it ever will be. We know that at the end of the day, riders want performance and durability without the burdens that come with overly complex components. We focused on these basic needs and came out with a line of chainguides that capitalizes on the collective thoughts provided by the riders who know best.

As we continue to grow in these early stages, we also maintain our humble outlook and only arm ourselves with the power of observation. We continue to test and tweak our guides in order to provide the mountain bike community with intuitive products that riders can take credit for.
